What a year 2006 has been! We completed 4 homes that were then purchased by four Victoria families and
started another 4 houses before the year ended. Of course, this was all due to you – our volunteers and donors.
In addition to the construction this year, the work that you did put six families through Financial Peace
University, and produced two new videos to show the community what HFHV is all about and highlights the
accomplishments of our amazing supporters. The new slate of board members has been hard at work making
decisions and working on committees. Productivity is the word that best describes the donors and volunteers
of HFHV in 2006. All told, HFHV was honored by 766 unique volunteers who together worked over 6,978 hours!
In the Spring of 2006, we announced a volunteer recognition program called The Hardhat Society. There is no
better way to illustrate that productivity than by introducing the volunteers across our organization who
earned their HFHV Hardhats. To earn a hardhat, these volunteers have worked at the worksite building houses,
on special events and on committees or boards for at least 25 hours. Many of the individuals here are well
beyond the 25 hour mark. We will be honoring all of the Hardhat volunteers at the annual Habitat Celebrates
Homes Donor and Volunteer Banquet this April. There is still time to get your hours in!

How do you recognize and thank volunteers who work every Saturday, crawling out of bed early to help build a
house for someone else? How do you thank a volunteer board member who devotes 10 hours a week to committee
meetings and governing tasks all while working a regular full-time job? Habitat leaders have asked those
same questions. The answer is a newly developed program that will provide the opportunity to track and reward
volunteers for the many hours they serve to further our mission.
The Hard Hat Society is a volunteer recognition system that recognizes all volunteers, from construction
volunteers to committee members, for the hours they serve and for the services they provide. As volunteers
accrue hours in the various areas of service they will be recognized, via, what else - a hard hat!
After a volunteer works 25 hours, they will be awarded a Habitat for Humanity, Victoria hard hat. All new
Hardhat Society inductees will be recognized at the next Habitat Celebrates Homes event, though awardees
will be notified of their hard hat status as their hours are completed throughout the year. After receiving
a hard hat, volunteers will receive a sticker to place on it for every 50 hours of service they donate to Habitat.
The idea behind the program is to thank volunteers and provide them with a visual representation of the service
they contribute to the Victoria community and the families of Habitat.
