   ReStore History

Faced with the need for an additional sustainable funding source, HFHV established the ReStore in 1999. The ReStore accepts donations of new and used building materials and fixtures from a variety of sources, and resells those materials at bargain prices. The ReStore provides an outlet for local materials recycling and landfill diversion activities. To date, the ReStore has diverted over 420 tons from our local landfill. The ReStore also makes home improvements more affordable for many Victoria citizens and offers the community a variety of opportunities for meaningful and rewarding volunteer involvement.

The ReStore provides job-training opportunities for partner families. Ruby Ruiz, manager of the HFHV ReStore, is a Habitat homeowner. Other Habitat homeowners work in customer service at the ReStore, and all new partner families are given the opportunity to work some of their ‘sweat equity’ hours at the ReStore. Customers from a four-county area shop at the ReStore and donors from as far away as Dallas and Fort Worth recycle new and used building materials through the store. Since opening in 1999, ReStore profits have built 5 houses.

The Habitat ReStore Outlet is the building material recycling center for Victoria Habitat for Humanity. The operation accepts donations of new and used building materials and fixtures from a variety of sources; uses these materials whenever possible in the construction of Habitat homes; and resells the balance of materials through its retail operation at bargain prices.

As the costs of building materials escalate, housing maintenance and improvements become increasingly unaffordable. Habitat for Humanity's ReStore Outlet addresses this problem by providing good quality building materials at greatly reduced prices as well as supporting the housing projects of the local affiliate.

The ReStore Outlet also accepts donations of aluminum cans. To donate items or schedule a pickup for large items, please call (361) 570-4700.
